When Gaby catches them having sex, she kicks Carlos out of the house and informs the maid that the is not allowed to leave until the baby is born. As the pregnancy develops, Gaby suspects that Carlos is having an affair with his maid. The maid agrees to be Carlos‘s and Gaby’s surrogate in order to stay in the country. Gabrielle learns that her maid is in danger of being deported back to China. The pole dancer soon decides to take her child back and to raise the child with her current partner. When the child is born, Carlos and Gabrielle hold temporary custody. However the family of the pole dancer try to intervene as they aren’t in agreement to Gabrielle and Carlos buying their child. They prepare to adopt the child of a pole dancer. Gabrielle agrees to have a child with Carlos, but her miscarriage leads to complications, hence leading them to consider adoption. As a result, Sister Mary is transferred to Alaska. To dispose of Sister Mary, Gabrielle tells a priest at church that Sister Mary and Carlos share an affair. Sister Mary, angered by this, suggests that Carlos takes a turn on his marriage and suggests he works on a charity event with her in Botswana. Gabrielle is resentful to Carlos’s more spiritual tone as it threatens her spoilt and luxurious life style. Carlos is paroled by the influence of a nun names Sister Mary Bernard. Gabrielle falls down the stairs which causes for her to have a miscarriage. Caleb Applewhite, who is one of the sons of the neighbours who suffers from mental illness, breaks into Gaby’s home and chases her. Gabrielle hires a womanizer lawyer, who later confesses his love for Gabrielle. Carlos and Gabrielle argue until Gaby apologises for her affair. As Carlos is not in jail and Gaby has a child on the way, John attempts to salvage her marriage. During Carlos’s trial, John admits to his affair with Gabrielle. Gabrielle realises that Carlos had been tempering with Gaby’s birth control. John hopes to help take care of the baby, however Gaby says that she will only claim that Carlos is the father. Gabrielle discovers that she is pregnant, unaware of who the father may be,. Carlos has to force Gaby to sign the document, she later again starts her affair with John. 
Carlos keeps asking Gabrielle for a child, as well as an agreement that she will not divorce him whilst he is in jail.Carlos is put under house arrest, while the couple face many financial troubles.

Gabrielle is forced to perform low wage modelling jobs to pay the bills. Carlos is arrested for importing goods made by slave labor, resulting in the government freezing his accounts. Gabrielle decides to end the affair after Johns mother hears about it. Mama Solis ends up in a coma as a result to the accident and dies a few months after without having the chance to tell Carlos of his wife’s betrayal. While fleeing the house, she is hit by a car and Gabrielle is able to dispose of this evidence. Mama Solis catches Gabrielle having sex with John and takes a photo for evidence. Carlos suspects that Gabrielle is being unfaithful and invited his mother to visit for help. She has an affair with her gardener to keep herself entertained. Gabrielle is shown to be very lonely as Carlos is very money minded and completely oblivious to his wife’s unhappiness. 
Gabrielle is unhappy in her marriage with Carlos, who had the priority to work.
